I chose the topic addressing the ban of the Burmese, African Rock, and Reticulated pythons affecting the state of Florida. I chose this topic because I am very interested in reptiles, and had recently researched the way these snakes have been tearing through the Florida Everglades ecosystem. I was also interested in looking into the ways this snake ban has affected exotic snake breeders and owners, and what kind of reaction these breeders and owners were giving.
Who I wrote my letter to
I wrote my proposal letter to William Gibson, writer for the Miami newspaper, The Sun Sentinel. I chose this man to write to because he has publsihed an article in the newspaper stating that people are overreacting, and the ban is unnecessary. Since I disagree with this stance, I chose to send my proposal letter to him.
What were some other choices when it came to writing this letter?
Some of my other options when it came to writing this letter were the editor of the Sun Sentinel, Howard Saltz, who has published a few articles refuting the snake ban. Another option was Jayme Smith, a herpetological expert that created a public petition to overturn the ban.
If readers would like to get involved...
If readers would like to get involved, I reccomend looking into Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission records and statements on the issue. Also, CNN is a very credible source that has many reports for both sides of the argument in regards to the current ban. Also there are many petitions online that you can look into to see what snake experts and herpetological experts are saying.

This research and blog topic was a part of a school research project in which we were required to choose an issue and provide the pro's and con's for that issue. Topics reviewed by classmates can be reviewed at:
